Paul Pierce is Doubtful for Celtics Opener
Published at(WALTHAM, MA) — The injuries keep adding up for the Boston Celtics. First it was Jeff Green. Now it looks like C’s captain Paul Pierce will miss the teams season opener with a sore right heel.
The Celtics kick off the entire NBA season Christmas day, when they take on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
“It’s medical staff decision — 100 percent a medical staff decision,” head coach Doc Rivers said. “I think this year it’s really going to have to be that. Because we can’t trust [the player] in that. Because if they do play and risk further injury, then miss some games, that’s [like] 25 games because it’s a shortened season.”
Last season, the 34-year-old Pierce averaged 18.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
