(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) — The end of the coaching road is near for Louisville head men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino. Speaking at a pre-game news conference on Tuesday, the 59-year-old Pitino said he does not plan on coaching beyond his current contract, which ends after the 2016-2017 season.
“When you’re 59, you’re realistic that you don’t have a whole lot of years left,” Pitino said. “My contract’s going to run out in 2017. Not coaching any more after that.”
Pitino is in his 11th season at Louisville, having led the Cardinals to a Final Four appearance in 2005. Before that, he coached at Kentucky from 1989-1997, leading the Wildcats to a national championship in 1996.
