Grosse Pointe Murder: Mistress’ House Searched

Robert Gentz (ABC News)(GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich.) — Michigan police raided the home of Bob Bashara’s alleged mistress Tuesday, searching for clues in the murder of Bashara’s wife, Jane.
Grosse Pointe Park and Wayne County Sheriff’s officers searched the home of Rachel Gillet, 50, who told police she was the girlfriend of Bob Bashara.
Jane Bashara was found strangled in her Mercedes SUV on Jan. 25. Last week, police arrested Robert Gentz, a former handyman who worked for Bashara, on charges of first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Bashara has said he had nothing to do with his wife’s death and blamed the murder on Gentz, whom he said was angry at Bashara over a business deal. Gentz turned himself in to authorities shortly after the discovery of Jane’s body, claiming that Bashara paid him to kill Jane.
Shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday, a group of five unmarked police cars arrived at Gillet’s home and began searching. The landlord of the property, Phyllis Huxley, told ABC News she was not notified of a search warrant and did not give any permission to enter the home. There were no marks of forced entry at the home.
During the search, officers emerged from the home carrying seven cardboard boxes, in addition to a clipboard, evidence box, and a paper bag.
Gillett has not been named as a person of interest in this case. She was last seen at her place of employment at Wayne State University at 10 a.m. Jan. 25. Neighbors say that she has not been seen at her home, but she did receive a new Netflix video in the mail Tuesday.
Bashara has denied the alleged affair with Gillet, calling her a “good friend.”
