Braves Demote Pitcher Jair Jurrjens to Triple-A

Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — At point in his career, Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens was considered a top-level young pitcher that the Braves could build around. Now, he’s having trouble staying in the Major Leagues. The team has announced that they have sent Jurrjens to Triple-A Gwinnett after his struggles this season continued to mount.
Jurrjens, who was an All-Star as recently as last season, has struggled mightily this season to regain his old form. In four starts this season, Jurrjens went 0-2 with a 9.77 ERA with a 2.45 WHIP.
Last season, Jurrjens went 13-6 with a 2.96 ERA. The 26-year-old Jurrjens was in his fifth full Major League season.
Despite his success, Jurrjens has had injury issues in the past and has made over 30 starts just twice, and the last time came during the 2009 season.
Overall, Jurrjens is 50-35 with a 3.53 ERA.
