Nativity Church in Bethlehem Added to the UNESCO Heritage List
Published at(JERUSALEM) — Palestinians celebrated when the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem was added on Friday to the World Heritage List by UNESCO, according to the New York Times.
The Palestinians believe this is a great political and diplomatic accomplishment because the famous church is located in the Palestinian-administered part of the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
Palestine was given full membership to UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, eight months ago, and the church was the first nominated historical site from Palestine.
