(NEW YORK) — The long-awaited finale to director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy opens in theaters nationwide Friday. Many fans caught midnight showings around the country.
The Dark Knight Rises revisits Gotham eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, which concluded with Batman taking responsibility for the death of Harvey Dent and going into hiding.
Batman — again played by Christian Bale — is forced back into action when a masked madman, Tom Hardy’s Bane, wreaks havoc on Gotham. Also new to the mix is Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, whose agenda isn’t clear.
Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman all return to the franchise, while Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are new to the cast.
The Dark Knight Rises, which is screening in both traditional and IMAX theaters, is rated PG-13. [Click here to read a review]
