(NEW YORK) — The San Francisco 49ers have arguably the best defense in the NFL and this Sunday they’ll take on the Minnesota Vikings who have one of the best running backs in the NFL, Adrian Peterson. Despite the 49ers stout defense, Peterson is looking forward to the matchup.
“These guys are good, but we’re looking forward to the challenge,” Peterson told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “I don’t think they’ve faced a run-attack offense like we have. So I think I can switch things up. We’re looking forward to playing those guys.”
Peterson wasn’t being generous when he talked about how good the 49ers defense is. They had the number one rushing defense in the NFL last season and this year they are allowing an average of 63.5 rushing yards per game which is good for sixth in the NFL.
Meanwhile, if there’s a running back in the NFL who could crack the 49ers vaunted run defense, it’s likely Peterson. The 27-year old Peterson returned to the field just nine months after suffering a torn ACL, which usually has a recovery period of at least one year.
So far this year, Peterson has 144 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
