Latest State Unemployment Data Released

Tim Boyle/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — Forty-one states and the District of Columbia showed unemployment rate decreases, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. Six states posted rate increases while three states had no change.

Specifically, Nevada has the highest unemployment rate at 11.8 percent in September.  Rhode Island and California posted the next highest rates, at 10.5 and 10.2 percent. While, North Dakota again registered the lowest jobless rate at 3.0 percent.

As a group, 21 states reported unemployment rates significantly lower than the national rate of 7.8 percent.  Fourteen states had higher rates, and 15 states and the District of Columbia had rates that were about the same as the national rate.
 
Here’s a list of the unemployment rates in swing states:

• Ohio — 7%   (down from 7.2% in August)
• Florida — 8.7%   (down from 8.8% in August)
• Wisconsin — 7.3%  (down from 7.5% in August)
• Colorado — 8%  (down from 8.2% in August)
• Iowa — 5.2%  (down from 5.5% in August)
• Virginia — 5.9% (same as August)
• New Hampshire — 5.7%  (same as August)
• Nevada — 11.8%  (down from 12.1% in August)
• North Carolina — 9.6%  (down from 9.7% in August)
