Published at | Updated at(BOISE, ID) — State Rep. Linden Bateman of Idaho Falls is launching a campaign to mandate cursive handwriting in Idaho’s elementary schools. The retired high school history teacher says the measure would improve students’ manual dexterity, boost reading comprehension, and improve overall cognitive development. School districts currently have the option to choose whether or not to teach cursive. Bateman says learning it is crucial to preserve genealogical and other historical documents.
