Eagles Trade Up To Grab Matt Barkley
Published at(NEW YORK) — Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly has a new quarterback.
The Eagles made a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars and took former USC quarterback Matt Barkley with the first pick in the fourth round.
“We’re going to take the best value on the board,” Kelly said. “There’s a prime example. The best value on the board by far was Matt. He’s an extremely mature young man, intelligent, articulate. He has that ‘it’ factor.”
Barkley hurt his shoulder at the end of his last season at USC, and that coupled with some poor play caused his draft stock to plummet.
“I try not to get stressed about things I can’t control,” Barkley said. “I’m just glad I know where my home is and I can’t wait to hit the playbook.”
