“Evil Dead” Opens in First Place with $26 Million
(NEW YORK) — Evil Dead survived the box office competition to debut in first place over the weekend. The remake of the 1981 horror classic earned an estimated $26 million.
Last week’s box office champ, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, fell into a second-place tie with the animated film The Croods. Estimates indicate each film raised $21.1 million. The final totals will be released Monday.
The 3D re-release of Jurassic Park opened in fourth place, collecting $18.2 million.
Here are the top 10 movies from Friday through Sunday, with estimated ticket sales, according to Hollywood.com:
