‘Iron Man 3’ has Second Highest Opening Weekend Ever to Top Box Office

Marvel(NEW YORK) — Iron Man 3 is a huge hit. The superhero movie took in an estimated $175 million in its opening weekend in the U-S.

That’s the second highest opening ever, behind last year’s The Avengers which also featured Iron Man. It also managed the ninth highest single-day gross of all time, raking in $68.312 million on Friday.

Iron Man 3 has earned more than 680 million dollars worldwide.

Here are the top 10 movies from Friday through Sunday, with estimated ticket sales, according to Hollywood.com:

1.         Iron Man 3 $175.3M

2.         Pain & Gain $7.6M

3.         42 $6.2M

4.         Oblivion $5.8M

5.         The Croods $4.2M

6.         The Big Wedding $3.875M

7.         Mud $2.2M

8.         Oz the Great and Powerful $1.8M

9.         Scary Movie 5 $1.4M

10.       The Place Beyond the Pines $1.3M
