NBC Cancels “Up All Night,” Three Other Comedies

Colleen Hayes/NBC(LOS ANGELES) — NBC has finally put Up All Night out of its misery. The network has cancelled the comedy after two seasons, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Up All Night was put on hiatus late last year, with the network planning to switch the show’s format from a single-camera comedy to a multi-camera series shot in front of a studio audience. But it subsequently lost its creator, Emily Spivey, and its leading star, Christina Applegate, leaving its future up in the air.
NBC has also cancelled its second-year comedy Whitney, starring comedienne Whitney Cummings, plus the freshmen sitcoms Guys With Kids and 1600 Penn.
There is good news for Parks & Recreation fans, though: it has been picked up for a sixth season.
The cancellations are making room for two new dramas and three new comedies on NBC’s 2013-2014 programming schedule.
Dermot Mulroney and Gillian Anderson will star in Crisis, which centers on a hostage situation involving the children of Washington power players.
Believe is a sci-fi drama about a friendship between a girl with unusual powers and wrongly imprisoned death row inmate.
Sean Hayes of Will and Grace fame returns to NBC as a divorced gay dad in Sean Saves the World.
About a Boy, a sitcom based on the Hugh Grant movie of the same name, and The Family Guide, which centers on a family post-divorce, have also been ordered.
