The 30-year-old Reynolds was designated for assignment last week by the Cleveland Indians after signing a one-year deal worth $6 million in the offseason.

Reynolds hit 60 home runs in 2011 and 2012 with the Baltimore Orioles, but is only hitting .215 with 15 homers and 48 RBIs this season, while striking out 123 times. Reynolds has hit just two homers since May and none since June 28.

The Yankees hope Reynolds can revitalize his career in New York, and give their lineup a power-hitting right-handed bat.
