“Gravity,” “Runner Runner,” “Metallica Through the Never” Open Friday

Warner Bros. Pictures(NEW YORK) — Here’s a look at the new movies opening nationwide Friday:

Gravity: Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are astronauts who are stranded in space when their shuttle is destroyed and they lose all contact with Earth.  The film is screening in 3D.  Rated PG-13.

Runner Runner: Justin Timberlake is a grad student who gets involved with an online gambler — played by Ben Affleck — whom the FBI is targeting.  Rated R.

Metallica Through the Never: The film combines performance footage of the legendary heavy metal band with a scripted story about a roadie on a mission.  Rated R.

In addition, The Hollywood Reporter says Sony Pictures is planning to sneak screen the Tom Hanks’ Somali pirate drama, Captain Phillips, in 800 theaters on Saturday night, a week ahead of its scheduled opening.
