Gateway West Project to Impact Power County Farmers

Gateway West Project

( AMERICAN FALLS,  ID ) – The final route for the 1,000-mile Gateway West transmission line has been decided, and many Power County landowners are upset. Federal authorities say 44 percent of the route will be on private land, and each 180-foot tower along the way needs a 2,500
square-foot base. That makes for quite a hassle when farmers rely on center pivots for irrigating, crop dusting from airplanes, and other chemical treatments on their crops. Officials say the route was chosen to protect sagegrouse habitat. Construction on the line will start in 2019, and continue
through 2023.
