James Carville Jokes Obama Should Smoke Crack
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Cracking a joke at the expense of a troubled Canadian politician, Democratic strategist James Carville said Monday that President Obama could improve his poll numbers by following in the footsteps of Rob Ford.
Interviewed on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Carville said of Obama, “I think the best thing he can do is take a toke on the mayor of Toronto’s crack pipe, because his numbers are about 48.”
In reality, Mayor Ford, who admitted last week he had smoked crack cocaine, has seen his once sky-high approval ratings plummet to 43 percent. Yet, that’s still better than the 41 percent the president recorded in the latest Pew Research Center poll.
Last December, Obama’s approval rating was 55 percent so the latest comedown is a sign that he has been hurt by the still-sluggish economy, scandals about spy agency snooping and, most recently, the debacle involving the rollout of the online health care exchange.
Turning serious, Carville admitted, “There’s some real, deep, fundamental problems with this president.” However, before people start writing off his presidency, Carville mentioned how Obama should be credited for the falling deficit, saving the auto industry and driving down health care costs.
