Site of Fort Hood Shooting Rampage Will Be Razed

JIM WATSON/AFP/Getty Images(FORT HOOD, Texas) — The site of the deadliest mass shooting at a military post in the U.S. will be torn down.
The Army plans to demolish Building 42003 at Fort Hood, Texas, where former Major Nidal Hasan opened fire on his fellow soldiers, killing 13 and wounding 32, on Nov. 5, 2009.
Brian Dosa, director of Fort Hood’s Directorate of Public Works, announced that the other four buildings, which are part of the Soldier Readiness Processing Center, will be reopened.
The entire complex was shuttered for the past four years because it was considered an active crime scene.
Hasan was found guilty last August on all counts, including 13 charges of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder, and sentenced to death.
He never denied entering Building 42003 and opening fire on soldiers preparing for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. Hasan was shot in the back when police officers responded. As a result, he is paralyzed and wheelchair bound.
