The Wall Street Journal reports that 67.5 million women are currently employed, a record and up about 100,000 from early-2008. While more men currently have jobs, about 69 million, that figure is down from the pre-recession high of 70.9 million.

The Journal points out that many women work in fields — such as nursing, education, hospitality, etc. — that have fared better than some male-dominated fields, notably construction and manufacturing.

During the recession, women lost 2.7 million jobs, while men lost over six million. Through October, women have an unemployment rate of 6.9 percent, compared to a 7.6 percent unemployment rate for men.
