“Forbes” Ranks Top 10 Most Overpaid Actors

121013 KatherineHeigl? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1386691912989Lionsgate(NEW YORK) — Forbes has again compiled its annual list of the most overpaid stars in Hollywood, and thanks to the under-performance of last year’s That’s My Boy and Jack and Jill, Adam Sandler has the dubious honor of topping the list. He should fare better next year, thanks to his hit sequel Grown Ups 2.

The same silver lining can’t be said for No. 2, Katherine Heigl, who left Grey’s Anatomy for movie star fame, only to suffer a series of misfires.  Her 2010 movie, Killers, grossed just $47 million, while her 2012 effort, One for the Money, managed to gross just over $26 million.

The list crunches the numbers to determine what kind of return on investment studios can recoup for each star’s salary.  The period analyzed was for three years ending June, 2013, which is why July’s successful Grown Ups sequel didn’t count, and animated films — usually a better bet at the box office — don’t count.  In Sandler’s case, for every dollar he was paid in salary, he generated $3.40 in ticket sales.

While list newcomer Kevin James’ box office fate will fare better next year, also thanks to Sandler’s sequel, and Meet the Millers’ blockbuster performance will shift No. 8 Jennifer Aniston’s rankings positively, No. 10 Ryan Reynolds will certainly be feeling the effects of his summer of discontents’ Turbo and R.I.P.D. — the latter, one of the biggest bombs of 2013.

Here’s the full Forbes list:
