Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, 48, is the highest-ranking member of al Qaeda to be tried on U.S. soil. He was captured last year in Jordan and extradited to the U.S.

The former spokesman for the terrorist group is accused of conspiring to kill Americans and providing support during the time of the attacks against the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001 that left nearly 3,000 people dead.

After opening arguments, which are due to begin later this week, jurors are expected to see a videotape of bin Laden and Abu Ghaith together that was taken the day after the 9/11 attacks in which they threaten more terrorism against the U.S.

Some of the prospective jurors who were interviewed Monday said they would have a difficult time being impartial during the trial. Abu Ghaith was also in court Monday and listened to the testimony through an Arabic interpreter.
