Michael Strahan Reveals He’ll Be in “Magic Mike XXL”

ABC/Ida Mae Astute(NEW YORK) — Michael Strahan stunned viewers on Live with Kelly and Michael back in 2012 by breaking out into his very own stripper dance for Channing Tatum, who was promoting Magic Mike at the time.
Well, it seems for Strahan showing off his dance moves has paid off. On Monday, the former NFL player announced that he will be appearing in Magic Mike XXL.
“I’m getting ready to do something that’s making me nervous,” he said Monday. “I’m about to do something that started as a joke on the show. …I decided to reenact some of [Tatum’s] movie. So then he was messing around with me and wrote me into the next Magic Mike XXL movie.”
Although his co-host Kelly Ripa didn’t believe him, Strahan insisted his initial strip tease was a joke not an audition.
“That was a joke! And then everytime Channing would come here, he would go, ‘Are you ready?’ even when we weren’t on camera. And I would go, ‘I stay ready! If you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready,'” he explained.
Denying he was on a diet to prepare for his role, Strahan said he’s ready regardless. “No, no, no. I’m not on a diet. See, I’m slim here but I’m telling you the muscles under this jacket are about to explode!” he said, laughing.
Strahan will join Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello and Jada Pinkett Smith in the film. Earlier this month, Magic Mike XXL director Gregory Jacobs announced Matthew McConaughey won’t be reprising his role as Dallas in the forthcoming sequel.
Magic Mike XXL will strut into theaters on July 1, 2015.
