The 10-episode miniseries is adapted from Jeffrey Toobin’s book, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

“This is an exciting project for me, as I’ve been looking for the right property which could serve as an extension of the American Horror Story brand I love so much,” Murphy said in a statement. “The O.J. case was as tragic as it was fascinating — it seemed like everyone had a stake in the outcome. It was really the beginning of the modern tabloid age.”

O.J. Simpson was acquitted in 1995 of the murders of former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. Two years later, a jury found Simpson guilty of civil damages, ordering him to pay $35 million to the families of Brown and Goldman who only received a fraction of the damages.

In 2008, the former NFL star was convicted of robbery and kidnapping in connection with an armed heist in Las Vegas to get back sports memorabilia he claims was stolen from him by two dealers. He was subsequently sentenced to 33 years in prison. Earlier this year, Simpson asked for a new trial, alleging his first attorney in the heist cast provided inadequate counsel, but a judge rejected his motion.

Simpson, 66, will have to stay in prison until at least 2017 when he first becomes eligible for parole.
