Jobless Claims Drop Lower to Start 2015

iStock/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) — Jobless claims decreased by 4,000 last week to kick off the new year, the Labor Department reported on Thursday.

For the week ending Jan. 3, the number of people filing for benefits dropped to 294,000. The previous week, claims stood at 298,000.

The four-week average also edged lower by 250 to 290,500.
