Thousands of Demonstrators ‘Not Afraid’ After “Charlie Hebdo” Massacre
Published at(PARIS) — Thousands of demonstrators gathered Wednesday at the Place de la Republique after the shooting deaths at the office of a French satirical newspaper in Paris.
Many who poured into Place de la Republique in eastern Paris, near the site of Wednesday’s noontime attack, held signs reading “Je Suis Charlie” — which translates to “I am Charlie.” They also held banners that read “we are not afraid.”
The hashtag “#JeSuisCharlie” was shared thousands of times on Twitter and posted by users from around the globe.
Twelve people, including eight journalists and an economist in the office, a doorman, a police bodyguard and a police officer, were killed in the attack. Eleven more were injured.
