Uber Hopes to Create Jobs, Help Environment Through Partnerships with European Cities
Published at(MUNICH) — Speaking at the DLD15 Conference on Sunday, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick outlined his company’s hopes of building new partnerships with European cities to bring the ride-sharing service to them.
“Uber is committed to establishing new partnerships with Europe’s cities to ensure innovation, harness powerful economic benefits and promote core city functions,” Kalanick said. The Digital-Life-Design conference “is a global network on innovation digitization, science and culture which connects business, creative and social leaders, opinion-formers and influencers for crossover conversation and inspiration.”
In a post to the Uber blog, the company says it could help take 400,000 cars off the road, reduce emissions and create 50,000 new jobs across Europe. Currently, the company is working with European governments on rule to ensure public safety. Uber notes that 22 U.S. jurisdictions passed new laws regulating ridesharing in 2014, and similar legislation has either been adopted or is being considered by numerous international jurisdictions.
Finally, the company shated its key principles — rider and driver safety, choice and competition, economic growth and tax collection.
