According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the strongest of the earthquakes, a magnitude 3.6 tremor, occurred six kilometers northeast of Irving at about 6:52 p.m. Tuesday. That was preceded by a magnitude 3.5 quake near the city of Snyder about three hours earlier.

The shakes have continued, though, with a pair of tremors — magnitude 2.9 and 2.7 — felt near Irving at about 8:12 p.m. Tuesday. The next grouping, three earthquakes measuring a magnitude 1.7, 2.4 and 1.6, hit the area between 9:54 p.m. and 11:03 p.m.

A magnitude 3.1 quake struck the area at about 12:59 a.m. Wednesday, with two more — magnitudes 2.6 and 2.7 — hitting at 8:34 a.m. and 9:57 a.m.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins released a statement on Wednesday, urging preparedness.

“While the cause of these earthquakes is still being investigated and the threat for a major earthquake in Dallas County remains low,” Jenkins said, “I would encourage our residents to review important earthquake preparedness and safety information from [the Federal Emergency Management Agency] and the American Red Cross.”
