Borgata says that its planned event — a Basketball Free Throw Tournament — was approved by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement as part of the “New Jersey First” program. “As Atlantic City’s market-leading resort destination, we believe that it is important that Borgata continue to play a dynamic role in the implementation of original and revolutionary programs,” resort President and COO Tom Ballance said in a statement.

The tournament will feature a $20 buy-in, with one permitted rebuy, and consist of three 90-second rounds. Participants will compete to reach the final round of 16 in a bracket format. The prizes include $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place and $1,000 each for third and fourth place. Fifth place through 16th place will receive either $100 bonus slot dollars or $100 match play.

Contestants will have to be age 21 or older.

The “New Jersey First” program aims to promote the revitalization of the gaming industry in Atlantic City. Under the program, gaming products can be submitted to and tested by the Division of Gaming Enforcement and potentially receive approval and be placed on the casino floor within two weeks.
