Iñárritu was honored with the award for outstanding directorial achievement in feature film for his work on Birdman. His win is significant: Only seven times since the Directors Guild Awards began in 1948 has the feature film winner not gone on to take the best director Oscar the same year.

The other nominees in the category were Boyhood’s Richard Linklater, The Grand Budapest Hotel’s Wes Anderson, The Imitation Game’s Morten Tyldum, and American Sniper’s Clint Eastwood.

The TV winners included Showtime’s Homeland and Amazon’s Transparent. You can check out all of the winners on DGA.org.
