As the measles virus spreads nationwide, some in California are saying “yes.”

Two lawmakers in the Golden State are introducing legislation that would no longer allow parents to exempt their children from getting vaccinations based on personal beliefs.

Democratic state senator Ben Allen of Santa Monica says the science is conclusive that vaccinations have no serious side effects and do save lives.

“We wanted to make sure that we increase the number of students who are coming to school vaccinated,” he said.

Allen wants the law to overrule parents’ personal beliefs.

The bill is expected to face intense opposition.
