Police said in a statement posted to Facebook that information regarding a weapons-related threat came forward on Thursday, at which point regional officers began an investigation. The evidence led police to believe that a 19-year-old Timberlea man and a 23-year-old Geneva, Ill., woman had access to firearms and planned to shoot civilians and then kill themselves in a public place on Saturday. Two other male suspects, ages 20 and 17, were also believed to be involved.

On Thursday night, the RCMP says investigators located the Timberlea man, and when an emergency response team entered the residence, he was found dead. Early Friday morning, the female suspect and the 20-year-old man were arrested at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. The final suspect was apprehended at about 11 a.m. near a Cole Harbour residence. All three remain in police custody.

“We believe we have apprehended all known individuals in this matter and eliminated the threat,” the RCMP statement read.
