Chargers Reward Tackle King Dunlap with Four-Year Extension
Published at(SAN DIEGO) — After proving he was a better than most thought for the past two seasons, the San Diego Chargers have rewarded tackle King Dunlap with a four-year deal.
ESPN is reporting that the deal is worth $28 million.
“It’s probably the best season I’ve had in a while,” Dunlap said at the completion of the 2014 season. “It was good. Being healthy is my biggest thing. I feel like if I’m healthy, I’ll work hard enough to where I’m somewhat successful. Staying healthy was huge.”
Dunlap is a former seventh round pick who spent the first five seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Once he was a free agent in 2013, not many teams showed much interest in him.
The Chargers wound up signing him to a two-year deal worth just $3.95 million. He exceeded expectations, and the hard work is finally paying off, literally.
According to Pro Football Focus, Dunlap gave up only three sacks on 625 passing plays this season.
