Gunfight Near Mexico Border Leaves Nine Dead

Paul Erickson/iStock/Thinkstock(MATAMOROS, Mexico) -– A gunfight south of the Rio Grande River on Tuesday has border residents on edge.
The incident happened along Mexico Highway 2 near Matamoros, when gunmen used buses to block the roadway.
Mexican media reports that nine people were killed in the firefights between rival drug gangs and law enforcement.
The U.S. Consulate in Matamoros urged its employees on Tuesday to stay off the streets due to rolling gun battles on the highway from Matamoros to Reynosa and in two specific neighborhoods, according to a report by ABC News affiliate KRGV-TV in Rio Grande Valley, Texas.
