(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — The Charlotte Hornets are adding significant scoring potential to their backcourt.
The team traded Gary Neal and a second round pick Tuesday to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for point guard Mo Williams. The Hornets will also acquire Troy Daniels.
“We are excited to be adding two quality players to our organization,” Hornets general manager Rich Cho said in a statement. “Mo Williams is a proven NBA player who gives us additional versatility and depth in the backcourt, both while Kemba Walker is out and after Kemba returns.”
This season the 32-year-old Williams has averaged 12.2 points and 6.4 assists per game for the lowly Timberwolves. He was named NBA Western conference player of the month for January that was highlighted by a 52-point performance against Indiana.
When Walker returns, the team is expected to utilize Williams versatility by playing them both on the court, with Williams serving as the shooting guard.
