The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Tammy Meyers and a juvenile were returning home Thursday from a driving lesson in a school parking lot not far from their house.

As they returned home, a “road range incident with another vehicle” occurred, according to Laura Metltzer, public information officer with the police. A shooting took place outside the home, injuring Meyers, she said. Police received a call, which they are not releasing, at 11:22 p.m. Thursday in the neighborhood.

Police say they are trying to identify the suspect, whom they have not identified as a man or woman. Both the parties were armed, police said, but they could not specify whether both people fired shots.

Police told ABC affiliate station KTNV in Las Vegas the driver followed Meyers home and the child, who the station said was her daughter, ran into the house.

Meyers was transported to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada with life-threatening injuries but is in stable condition, KTNV reported. The hospital has not responded to ABC News’ request for comment.

Her husband, Robert Meyers, called KTNV this morning, saying he was on a business trip in California when he received the news, the station said.

He said his 15-year-old daughter, who he said was the juvenile mentioned by police, did not witness the shooting and that he is devastated, KTNV reported.
