More Cold, Snow, Ice Expected in Midwest and South

ronstik/iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — More chilly temperatures, snow, and ice are expected in many parts of the country this week, as a weekend winter storm that caused icy conditions in the South and snow in the Northeast slowly moves away.
That storm is expected to slowly come to a close Sunday, as some of the coastal Northeast is expected to see a mix of sleet and snow. Some states will have reached over a foot of snow as a result of the storm.
As of 7 a.m., 8 states were still under a winter advisory in the Northeast, but those will expire later Sunday.
On Saturday, heavy snow fell on Colorado, and a few more inches are expected Sunday. Winter weather advisories have also been issued ahead of freezing rain and sleet in Texas that may cause icy conditions.
Increasingly cold temperatures hit much of the Northeast and Midwest early this coming week. Because of the wind chill, some parts of the northern Plains may feel as low as -50 degrees this morning, with some northern parts of the country reaching lows in the single digits on Monday.
Also on Sunday, the Virginia National Guard said that it was staging more than a dozen soldiers in preparation for “possible response operations” after more snow covered the state.
On Saturday Night, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency confirmed that 21 weather-related fatalities within the last week.
