When asked by ABC News chief White House correspondent Jonathan Karl in the Oval Office about the executions, Obama did not respond.

Instead, all of his remarks were on the immigrant Dreamers seated beside him and the battle with Republicans over immigration and Homeland Security funding.

Obama said Dreamers “represent the best of what America has to offer” and that the House Republicans had passed a bill that would have them deported.

“I will veto any legislation that got to my desk that took away the chance for these young people who grew up here” from getting the opportunity to continue to do so,” the president said. “I would call on members of Congress to think about all the talent that’s already in this country making contributions.”

On Homeland Security funding, which runs out on Feb. 27, Obama called threats to hold up funding over the dispute on his executive actions “illogical.”

“Why would you cut off your nose to spite your face by defunding the very operations that are involved in making sure that we have strong border security?” he said.
