Oregon AG: Resignation Won’t Affect Kitzhaber Investigation
Published at(PORTLAND, Ore.) — Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum called Friday “a sad day for Oregon” but that an investigation into the conflict-of-interest scandal that led to Gov. John Kitzhaber’s resignation would continue.
According to Rosenblum, Kitzhaber’s Friday announcement that he would step down as of Wednesday, Feb. 18, “will not affect our ongoing criminal investigation into allegations of his an [his fiancee’s] conduct.” She vowed to conduct a “full and fair investigation of all the facts.”
Kitzhaber had been accused of unethical and illegal behavior.
Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown will take over as governor on Wednesday, as the state has no lieutenant governor. Brown will become the first openly bisexual governor.
