Hosmer’s defense was key in their World Series run last year, and he batted .270 with 35 doubles and just nine homers. He also took home a Gold Glove award. The 25-year-old batted .351 with two homers and 12 RBIs in the postseason.

Hosmer was drafted with the third overall pick in the 2008 amateur draft by Kansas City.

With this deal, Hosmer won’t be eligible for free agency until 2018.

The Royals avoided an arbitration hearing with all their players this year.
