Samsung Warns: Our TVs Can Hear You Now

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — In an eerie update to its devices’ privacy settings, electronics giant Samsung is warning consumers against uttering “personal or other sensitive information” around its Smart TVs, because what you say around them is being recorded.
At issue, the company explains, is its devices’ use of voice controls.
“Samsung may collect and your device may capture voice commands and associated texts so that we can provide you with Voice Recognition features and evaluate and improve the features,” the privacy update notes.
“Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party through your use of Voice Recognition.”
Voice Recognition features can be disabled, the company notes, but warns doing so, “may prevent you from using all of the…features.”
