Shelling Ahead of Scheduled Cease-Fire in Eastern Ukraine
Published at(DONETSK, Ukraine) — Despite the planned cease-fire between Ukraine and Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine, Saturday saw heavy shelling in the city of Donetsk.
The U.S. Mission to NATO tweeted photos it claims shows Russian military, and not separatist systems in eastern Ukraine on Saturday morning. Also on Saturday, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow tweeted that pro-Russian separatists “now have larger armies…than some NATO and European countries.”

Pro-Russia separatists now have larger armies (tanks, armored vehicles, heavy artillery, rockets) than some NATO and European countries.

Further, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow said, the Russian military had deployed rocket launchers and artillery around the town of Debaltseve.

The cease-fire, agreed to earlier this week, is scheduled to start on Sunday, and be followed by a process of constitutional reform.
