Turkey Arrests 14 Trying to Cross into Syria to Join Islamic State
Published at(ISTANBUL) — Turkish military officials say they have apprehended more than a dozen people trying to cross the border into Syria to join the Islamic State.
The officials say 13 of those arrested on Wednesday are foreigners and the other is Turkish.
The foreigners, whose nationalities were not disclosed, were remanded to police custody and will be deported. However, state prosecutors ordered the Turkish suspect be released.
Turkey has been accused of not doing enough to curb the flow of would-be jihadists through the country and into neighboring Syria.
