US, Partners Launch 13 More Airstrikes in Iraq and Syria

Thinkstock 021415 FighterJet?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1423931482254pablographix/iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — U.S. and coalition forces continued to launch airstrikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria on Friday night into Saturday morning.

According to U.S. Central Command, nine strikes were conducted in Iraq and four more in Syria.

The strikes in Syria were all focused around Al Raqqah, where eight tanks and three bunkers were destroyed. A bulldozer and a tank were also hit by the strike.

In Iraq, the strikes were aimed at targets near Bayji, Hit, Mosul, Sinjar, Taji and Tal Afar. Those strikes destroyed three ISIS buildings, an armored excavator and two fighting positions. Forces also hit seven ISIS tactical units, a rocket system and a factory for the manufacture of improvised explosive devices.

Forces from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates took part in the latest round of strikes.
