Blue Jays Name Hutchison Opening Day Starter
Published at(DUNEDIN, Fla.) — The Toronto Blue Jays say 24-year-old Drew Hutchison wil be their Opening Day starter when they face the Yankees on April 6 in New York.
“It’s really exciting — Opening Day is special,” Hutchison said. “At the end of day, it’s a long game. But as we all know, it’s Opening Day. The excitement, the energy — everything that goes into it is exciting.”
Hutchison missed all of 2013 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He rebounded nicely in 2014 making 32 starts, pitching 184 2/3 innings, and striking out 184 batters while compiling a 4.48 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP.
Hutchison will become the youngest Opening Day starter in Blue Jays history.
