“I opted for convenience … because I thought it would be easier to carry one device,” she told reporters at the United Nations in New York.

This came as the State Department on Tuesday confirmed that it will be publishing the 55,000 emails that Clinton handed over to the department after they are reviewed.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the documents will be available online on a government website. She said that the release will follow Freedom of Information Act guidelines, meaning that any redacted content will have an explanation about why it was removed.

Clinton’s only comment to date about the email scandal came via Twitter when she noted that she has asked the State Department to release her emails, though that process is expected to take months.

She took two questions at a news conference on Jan. 17, 2013 and then did a series of farewell interviews later that month. Aside from that, her interactions with the press have focused mainly on her book tour and paid speaking engagements.

She also briefly answered questions from members of the press during a visit to Iowa in September, but that was not part of a formal press conference.

It was publicly reported last week that Clinton, who is widely seen as the likely Democratic presidential nominee, used a private server and email domain during her tenure as Secretary of State rather than using the government’s email system.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-Fla., said in a statement responding to Clinton’s press conference on Tuesday that he intends to call Clinton to appear twice before the House Select Committee on Benghazi.

“The first appearance,” Gowdy said, “will be to clear up her role and resolve issues surrounding her exclusive use of personal email to conduct official business.” He added that such testimony is “necessary to establish our Committee has a complete record with respect to Secretary Clinton’s time in office.

The second appearance will be in order to “answer questions specifically regarding Libya and the Benghazi terrorist attacks that took the lives of our four brave fellow citizens.”
