‘Key Terrain’ Reclaimed from ISIS in Syria

MatthewBrosseau/iStock/Thinkstock(TAL HAMIS, Syria) — The U.S.-led coalition battling ISIS in the Middle East issued a statement on Tuesday saying that the area around the village of Tal Hamis, including key terrain, has been reclaimed by “anti-ISIL forces,” using the alternate name for the militant group.

The reclamation of “key terrain” occurred late last week, the coalition said. “These forces overcame [ISIS] resistance in this section of Syria, and denied the terrorist group its freedom of maneuver in the area,” the coalition said. The same activity denied ISIS access to travel routes used to move its personnel and materials into Tal Afar and Mosul in Iraq.

The coalition says that 94 villages near Tal Hamis were also liberated, with airstrikes being used to further degrade ISIS.
