White House Website Improving Visitor Privacy Protection
Published at(WASHINGTON) — The White House website is stepping up its privacy protection. Beginning Wednesday, the Executive Office announced via Twitter that it’s website will use “HTTPS” — short for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure sockets.
“The @Whitehouse is taking steps to improve your privacy. Starting today we use HTTPS by default: https://www.WhiteHouse.gov,” read a tweet from the Executive Office Twitter account.

HTTPS connections are not new. They’ve been around nearly as long as the web, but they are primarily used by sites that handle monetary transactions, such as your banking website or sites that capture credit card data. Google and WikiLeaks also use secure connections.
The FBI, the Departments of Defense and Justice, as well the Senate and House, are among the government agencies that do not use HTTPS.
The White House, however, will join the CIA and NSA to be one of the few federal agencies taking these security steps on their websites.
