Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Wins Second Term in Runoff Victory
Published at(CHICAGO) — Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel won a second term Tuesday in Chicago’s first mayoral runoff election.
The mayor defeated opponent Jesus “Chuy” Garcia after a tough six week battle in the city’s first mayoral runoff election.
Speaking to supporters Tuesday night, Emanuel thanked the voters, saying the runoff would make him a better mayor.
“I want to thank you for putting me through my paces,” Emanuel said. “I will be a better mayor because of that.”
He also called the position the, “greatest job in the world.”
“I have had the good fortune to serve two presidents, I have had the fortune of being elected to Congress,” Emanuel said. “Being mayor of the city of Chicago is the greatest job I’ve ever had and the greatest job in the world.”
