The submarine caught fire in a shipyard in Russia’s northern province of Arkhangelsk, near the Arctic Circle. A spokesman for the shipyard, Ilya Zhitomirsky, told ABC News the fire has been contained and no casualties had been reported.

Zhitomirsky added that the no nuclear material was aboard the submarine. The fuel was removed long before the fire broke out, as the submarine has already been in dry-dock for a long time.

“There is no danger. No danger,” he said.

The fire broke out during repairs to the sub, when separate materials within the submarine caught fire, according to Zhitomirsky.
