White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the two sides continue to disagree on when economic sanctions on Iran should be phased out.

“The Iranians do continue to believe, or do continue to seek an agreement whereby all of the sanctions would be lifted on day one. At least that’s how they characterize their position publicly,” Earnest said. “We’ve characterized our position much differently than that. It’s our view that sanction relief should be phased in.”

The sides are hoping to have this and all other issues resolved by the end of June.

Republicans on Capitol Hill, however, want to ensure Congress gets the final say on the nuclear deal with Iran before it is finalized.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair, Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn, says he’s just short of a veto-proof majority for the bill, which would require the Obama administration to submit the final agreement to Congress for review and approval.

It would also prohibit the President from suspending sanctions on Iran during a 60-day review period.
